Why Calcium and Vitamin D Matter
In our medical-themed camps, we teach kids that their bones are living tissues that are constantly growing. To build a strong "skeletal bank account," kids need two main things: Calcium and Vitamin D.
Think of calcium as the building blocks. When kids eat calcium-rich foods, they are fueling their skeletons for the future.
Meanwhile, Vitamin D is the key ingredient that helps the body to absorb calcium.
During Canadian winters, the sun isn't strong enough for our bodies to produce Vitamin D naturally. Now is the perfect time to learn about calcium-rich treats and why they are so important during the colder months!
