No, but many of our staff are. We hire a diverse group of teens and young adults and many speak a second language. French, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Farsi are the most common.
While our programming is currently only delivered in English, if your child has some understanding of the language it might still be a good fit since 85% of our learning blocks are hands-on activities.
Our staffing changes from season to season, so please send us an email at info@medicscamp.com to let us know what language your child speaks and their current level of English and we'll see if we can accommodate.
Unfortunately, our normal staffing ratios cannot accommodate campers who require a dedicated counselor. However, if your child has special needs and you believe they would benefit from our STEM program with some minor accommodations, we encourage you to send us an email request before registering. This way, we can ensure that our camp is a good fit for your child's needs.
Ages 5-6: 1 staff member for every 8 campers
Ages 7-8: 1 staff member for every 8 campers
Ages 9-12 1 staff member for every 10 campers
Medics Camp meets or exceeds the Ontario Camp Association (OCA), recommended camper-to-counselor ratios for day camps to ensure that children receive the attention and supervision they need to stay safe and engaged.
Medics Camp encourages and supports learning with friends as an important part of the camp experience. When your child arrives on the first day, they can let their camp room instructor know who they would like to sit with, and we will make every effort to place friends together in groups of typically 4-6 kids.
Medics Camp programs are age-based, and while we encourage kids to register with friends, we can only accommodate friend requests if children are registered for the same age group (L1, L2, or L3). Please check your registration confirmation to ensure that your child and their friend are registered for the same age group, location, and week. If the information on your registration confirmations is different, there is likely a mismatch with the age group/level.
Our registration system calculates age based on the child's age as of a certain date, and some programs may have different birthday month cut-offs. If your friend's birthday is close to the cut-off date, you can send us an email at info@medicscamp.com, and we will review your request. Camp groups typically reach full capacity by the time your child's session starts, so moving a child to a different age group to be with a friend whose birthday is later in the year is impossible if no seats are available. Exceptions to move to a different age group must be requested prior to the start of camp (and are not always granted) and will never be permitted once camp begins.
There are no refunds if your child is unhappy with the camp group they are registered for. (See our refund policy for more details.)

Each program theme and age group is designed to be self-contained, allowing campers to attend any program theme for which they are age-eligible in any order. Each age group level increases in complexity, ensuring that as campers grow older and return for a program theme, it will be a completely different and enriching experience.
Our programs are age-specific and tailored to the needs of our learners. Each program theme offers unique activities designed to be engaging and appropriately challenging for each age group, progressively increasing in complexity as children grow older. Have a gifted child? Don't worry, you've come to the right place. Our talented instructors will find additional challenges for those who want to push themselves further.
When you register your child for one of our programs, our registration system will automatically display the available sessions based on your child's age group. The system accurately calculates your child's age as of December 31st and places them in the appropriate level. Campers learn best with their peers, which is why our group levels are age-based, ensuring they are in a session that is both challenging and engaging.
Please note that the minimum age for Medics Camp is 5 and they must have completed junior kindergarten. We understand that there may be some children who will be 4 at the time of camp and won't be turning 5 until the end of the calendar year. While they are eligible to attend, please consider your individual child, their maturity level and attention span. We want their first experience with Medics Camp to be amazing but we know that children develop at different rates and not all are ready for a week long medical STEM camp no matter how amazing it is. If they would rather be running around outside all day maybe wait a year before registering them. As a parent myself, I can tell you from experience, kids can change a lot in a year.
