What 10 Years of Medics Camp Has Taught Us About Kids and STEM

For 10 years, families have trusted us to give their children something a little different: an opportunity to step into the world of medical science, get curious, ask questions, try something new and discover where that experience might take them.

But we also know something important: Medics Camp isn't going to be the same experience for every child—and that's okay. A child who loves STEM coding or robotics isn't necessarily going to fall in love with medical science STEM. While another child may arrive unsure about what to expect and discover that the human body, forensic medicine, first aid or the science behind healthcare sparks something they didn't know was there.

And sometimes, discovery means realizing that something simply isn't for you. Learning about who we are as individuals early in life can provide clarity that guides future academic and career decisions. We believe every experience is an opportunity to learn more about yourself.

We hope every camper takes something away from their time with us—even if that something is simply identifying an area of science they don't want to pursue.

Maybe they learned something they didn't expect to learn. Maybe they made a new friend. Maybe they asked a question that stayed with them long after camp ended. Maybe they discovered a new interest or a subject they want to explore further. Maybe they learned a first aid skill they will remember and use to help someone. Maybe they found a community of curious, science-loving kids who made them feel like they belonged.

And we hope that, somewhere along the way, they experienced the importance of compassion, helping others and making a difference—whether that difference eventually happens in healthcare, science, education, technology, law, the arts, or somewhere we can't yet imagine.

Because our vision is bigger than any one career path. We want to inspire meaningful change by introducing children to STEM and the medical field at an early age—sparking curiosity, building confidence and helping them discover the knowledge and passions that may shape the people they become and the difference they ultimately make in the world.

For some, that spark may grow into a passion for healthcare. For others, it may simply help them discover what they love, what they don't, or what questions they want to keep asking. And for some, it may be the beginning of a journey we can't yet imagine.

To every camper who experienced a spark…

To every child who left with more questions than they arrived with…

To every camper who discovered a personal area of interest…

To every camper who discovered a little more about themselves…

To every child who found a friend, a mentor, or a community of like-minded peers…

Thank you for being part of the Medics Camp family.

And to our families: thank you for believing in our vision, trusting us with your children and giving them the opportunity to discover where their own curiosity might lead. We are so grateful to have spent another summer learning, exploring and making memories with your children. ❤️
